随着现代传媒业的飞速发展，被称为传媒痼疾的虚假新闻不时出现，且造假的手段多种多样。虚假新闻是指为了达到某一目的而采用发布假信息达到欺骗当事者的一种舆论，未能真实反映客观事物本来面貌，带有虚假成分的报道。

It’s not uncommon that some journalists make up false or misleading storiesabout celebrities, illnesses, crimes, etc. Take celebrities for example.'MonkeyKing' actor Zhang Jinlai, better known by his stage name, Liu Xiao Ling Tong,was once reported dead several years ago. And today, he was involved in theother false news——CCTV's Lunar New Year's eve gala acturally uninviting him.

People may wonder why so many journalists cook up false stories. More oftenthan not, the reason is all about personal interests. Most journalists createmisleading news in order to draw public attention so as to make themselves morepopular or to win certain prizes. To achieve these goals, they try to getsomething out of nothing and rumour about famous figures regardless of thosepeople’s privacy.

Now, it’s high time for China’s journalism supervisory bodies to deal withthe false news reports. They should take stringent measures to prevent allpossible false news. For instance, journalists who are found to manipulate newsshould be severely punished and could be banned from news writing for ten yearsor more.
